Jewish Route
Tui possesses an important heritage related to the past presence in the city of a Jewish and judeoconvert community.
As remains from those times, we have a collection of sambenitos, penance cloaks which judaizing Christian heretics were forced to wear, found in the Cathedral archive and now exhibited in the Diocesan Museum.
These pieces are unique in Europe. We also have Salomón’s House, the only of its kind and features in Galicia, located in Canicouva street. It displays a central patio around which the rest of the house spreads. We must not forget the Menorah in the Cathedral cloister, a witness to the relationship between the Jewish and Christian communities.
These are the three main elements which have survived to the present day linked to our Jewish past, but many others can be mentioned as well, such as the synagogue, the butcher shop…
